Your Immune System Needs a Boost to Fight Illness

Whether you have a cold, the flu, or another medical condition, having an illness puts extra demands on the body during the recovery process. Your body needs more vitamins and nutrients than usual to fight off your illness. Boosting your antioxidant levels can also help accelerate the recovery process.

Hydration is an essential part of recovering from illness, but it’s not always easy to drink a lot of fluids when sick, especially if you have nausea. Drinking plenty of fluids helps your body flush out toxins, thin mucus to improve your congestion, and restores fluids lost if you have been feverish. IV therapy for illness has the added benefit of hydrating you while providing essential vitamins and antioxidants.

Drip Hydration’s Immune Boost treatment contains a blend of IV fluids, vitamins and antioxidants to help kick your immune system into high gear and help you recover from your illness as quickly as possible.

Symptoms of a weak immune system

Most of the time, the immune system protects the body from infection. However, some people have a weak immune system that may make them prone to frequent infections.

The primary symptom of a weak immune system is susceptibility to infection.  A person with a weak immune system is likely to get infections more frequently than most other people, and these illnesses might be more severe or harder to treat. These individuals may also find themselves dealing with an infection that a person with a stronger immune system would not get.

At least 80 illnesses are caused by immune system problems. They can all cause inflammation.

Boost your immune system with IV therapy

Our Immune Boost Contains:

  • IV Fluids: A sterile saline solution that delivers nutrients directly into your bloodstream, rehydrates your body, and ensures 100% absorption.

  • Vitamin B6 : is vital to supporting biochemical reactions in the immune system.

  • B-Complex Vitamins: A complex of 8 different vitamins that perform a range of vital functions including cardiovascular support, helping your body convert food into energy, immune function, and more.

  • Vitamin C: Vitamin C is one of the biggest immune system boosters of all. In fact, a lack of vitamin C can even make you more prone to getting sick. And also, Vitamin C plays many essential roles throughout your body, helping to maintain systems such as muscles, bones, immune support, and your circulatory system.

Research about vitamin C and Immune Function

Vitamin C is an essential micro-nutrient for humans, with pleiotropic functions related to its ability to donate electrons. It is a potent antioxidant and a co-factor for a family of bio-synthetic and gene regulatory enzymes.

Vitamin C contributes to immune defense by supporting various cellular functions of both the innate and adaptive immune system. Vitamin C supports epithelial barrier function against pathogens and promotes the oxidant scavenging activity of the skin, thereby potentially protecting against environmental oxidative stress.

Vitamin C accumulates in phagocytic cells, such as neutrophils, and can enhance chemo-taxis, phagocytosis, generation of reactive oxygen species, and ultimately microbial killing. It is also needed for apoptosis and clearance of the spent neutrophils from sites of infection by macrophages, thereby decreasing necrosis/NETosis and potential tissue damage.

The role of vitamin C in lymphocytes is less clear, but it has been shown to enhance differentiation and proliferation of B- and T-cells, likely due to its gene regulating effects.

Vitamin C deficiency results in impaired immunity and higher susceptibility to infections. In turn, infections significantly impact on vitamin C levels due to enhanced inflammation and metabolic requirements.

Furthermore, supplementation with vitamin C appears to be able to both prevent and treat respiratory and systemic infections. Prophylactic prevention of infection requires dietary vitamin C intakes that provide at least adequate, if not saturating plasma levels (i.e., 100-200 mg/day), which optimize cell and tissue levels. In contrast, treatment of established infections requires significantly higher (gram) doses of the vitamin to compensate for the increased inflammatory response and metabolic demand.

Helpful ways to strengthen your immune system

The idea of boosting your immunity is enticing, but the ability to do so has proved elusive for several reasons. The immune system is precisely that — a system, not a single entity. To function well, it requires balance and harmony. There is still much that researchers don't know about the intricacies and interconnectedness of the immune response. So for now, there are no scientifically proven direct links between lifestyle and enhanced immune function.

But that doesn't mean the effects of lifestyle on the immune system aren't intriguing and shouldn't be studied. Researchers are exploring the effects of diet, exercise, age, psychological stress, and other factors on the immune response, both in animals and in humans. In the meantime, general healthy-living strategies are a good way to start giving your immune system the upper hand.

Here are a few tips that may help you boost your immune system.

Manage stress

Stress can weaken the immune system further and make a person more susceptible to illness.

Some research shows that a person who is under excessive stress is more likely to get sick.

People with a weak immune system should take steps to manage their stress. Practices that may reduce and manage stress include:

  • yoga

  • meditation

  • massages

  • spending time pursuing hobbies
